Case Study 2 : Shopee Product & Design Challenge 2021

This was a challenge which open to all undergraduates, postgraduates and professionals in Singapore which specially designed by the Shopee Product & Design teams. We have participated in this challenge as Team Never which took place on 3rd December 2020 to 16 January 2021 focussed on improving Singapore Shopee’s app existing feature.

Problem Statement

With 90% of people in Southeast Asia and Taiwan connecting to the internet mainly via mobile, many features and initiatives on Shopee are designed for mobile. Taking into consideration Shopee’s current initiatives on on its mobile app in the respective markets and the local consumer behaviour, propose a solution that focuses on (i) improving an existing feature OR (ii) creating a new feature that would enable Shopee to remain the leading e-commerce platform in your chosen market. Participants can choose to base their solutions on any of the 7 markets that Shopee is based in Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Philippines and Taiwan.

Research Goal

To identify the problems that significantly impact Shopee app user experience.

RESEARCH

We have looked into few competitors (Amazon, Grailed, Taobao and Lazada) platforms by analyse on the UXUI and key features.

We have invited 3 participants who are actively engaged with Shopee.

DESIGN

Re-design the Information Architectural by making the buyer and seller mode more prominent. By chunking the activities as a buyer and/or seller helps to simplify the whole interaction will provide a faster and easy user interface.

PROTOTYPING

WIREFRAMING

— To promote a more friendly, reliable and seamless interface.

— To facilitate buyer/seller to change setting easily, reduce the user confusion by grouping all the top priority functions in the relevant setting.

— To relocate My Rewards and Voucher

CONCLUSION

After taking into consideration on our research analysis, we have decided to focus in improving Shopee to a more user and product friendly homepage and content interaction.

  • Take Away

Digitalisation has become part and parcel of today’s development. Not to mention that e-commerce platform has become more common in our daily activities. In order for Shopee to continue being the preferred e-commerce platform in the region and keep engaging the local consumers, agile and simplicity design shall rule. It needs to make the buying and selling experience fast, clever and simple as possible while catching up with the future trends

  • What’s Next

In the world of digitalisation, there is no stoping point to design, re-iterate and re-design to keep up with the changes in psychology, technology and design to be competitive. There is unlimited or no boundary for human-technology development to be incorporated with product design.
